Designed for children aged 0 to 5 years old, this new generation of car seats will keep your child rear-facing for much longer, which is proven to be the safest way to transport a child.

Fastens easily using a normal three-point seat belt. There are two shoulder belt positions and an adjustable headrest to adapt to your growing child. LED technology warns in case of a fall in air pressure.

To change the position of the shoulder straps, simply:

  1. Check where your child's shoulders are when in the car seat.
  2. Open the buckle.
  3. Pull the shoulder straps including the belt pad through the backrest.
  4. Set the straps such that they come from below and are strapped over your child's shoulders
CHECK: The straps should be in the right place - they must be close to the body, and only one flat hand should fit between the child and the belt. It is better to take off thick jackets. The buckle must engage properly.

To pack the Nachfolger:

  1. Locate the Quick Release button on the bottom of the seat next to the valve.
  2. Click on the Quick Release button.
  3. Let the air escape from the Nachfolger.
  4. Fold it up.
  5. Put it in its carry bag and you can take it with you!

What if my child sticks a pen into the car seat?

The Nachfolger underwent multi-stage, extensive tests in world-leading facilities, where such behavior with foreign bodies was tested in a professional crash test. A pen cannot harm this car seat.

What does it come with?

The Nachfolger includes the car seat, battery-operated pump and the carry bag (which turns into a vehicle seat protector), as well as a user manual. You may buy the other accessories separately. Here are some quick links to the Nachfolger accessories we carry:

How do I know that I have properly secured my Nachfolger HY5?

It has to be fixed with the vehicle's seat belt, the seat belt must be taut and hold the seat well. In the back seat of the car, the Nachfolger must be additionally fastened with the top tether.

How many kids car seats fit in the back seat?

In most cases, you can fit three along the back seat of a car, as long as your Nachfolger HY5 is secured with a three-point automatic seat belt. Take into consideration that a Nachfolger HY5 is 44cm wide.

Can I also fit the kids car seat onto the front passenger seat?

Yes you can, but only with a proper vehicle seat belt approved for an adult. The top tether is not necessary on the passenger seat, the dashboard takes over its function. Bring your Nachfolger HY5 as close as possible to the dashboard and deactivate the airbag.

Is it safe for my child to sleep in it?

Yes it is. In fact, this car seat is so comfortable, you can expect that they'll fall asleep in it.

What happens when the air runs out and my child is still sitting inside?

You can inflate the seat even if your child is still sitting inside. When there is too little air in the Nachfolger HY5, the LED light flashes red.

How can I adjust the headrest?

The height adjustment can be continuously adjusted and thus allows your child the best possible protection and comfort. The headrest must be adjusted so that there is a maximum distance of two inches between the child's shoulder and the headrest. Pull the headrest upwards at the top and move it to the desired position.

Why rear-facing and not forward-facing?

It is safer because rear-facing car seats distribute the crash forces evenly over the head, neck and spine. In a conventional, forward-facing car seat, the head of the child moves forwards on impact and strains the child's neck. While in a rear-facing car seat, these forces are significantly reduced and the energy is distributed to the entire back of the child. Thus, the rear-facing car seat reduces the load under the same circumstances by over 80%.

Can we use this forward-facing?

Under no circumstances should you put your child at increased risk of danger by having them sit forward-facing in a rear-facing car seat. The Nachfolger HY5 is designed to be used under the safest mode of transportation: rear-facing. It may only be used as a rear-facing car seat.

How does a newborn fit into the Nachfolger HY5?

Our newborn inlay provides your baby with the right support and safety. We recommend using the newborn inlay until they are 6 months old. The newborn inlay has a foam inner, which you can remove when weaning them off of it. For preemies or babies under 3kg or under 45cm in height, a infant carrier would be a better option.

What do I do if I don't have the pump? Is there an alternative?

If you've misplaced your pump, you can purchase another one here.

If you've left home and forgot to take it with you, don't fret - the Nachfolger HY5 is cleverly designed to make sure you can use your car seat at all times, even if you forget the pump. It's equipped with a standard car tire valve connector. If you do not have the pump with you, you can inflate your car seat at any gas station with all common pumps.

What if it explodes?

The ACS (Air Control System) control unit ensures that the innovative SAS (Side-Air-Suspension) system is supplied with sufficient air. The pump stops automatically when the correct pressure is reached. Therefore, the seat cannot explode.

Can the Nachfolger HY5 be used on the plane?

Nachfolger is still working on a license for using their car seat on planes. For now, please inform the airline before departure if you want to take it with you.

Please inquire before your flight if the HY5 has gotten an approval from the respective airline. Please also take into consideration that this seat can only be used in the first row after a partition wall (after a service unit, WC, or separation to the business class) in the economy class. It can be used in all seats in business and first class, but must be strapped in rear-facing, like in a car. Please note that only the aircraft seat belt needs to be strapped in the aircraft, the blue belt buckle remains closed and the seat belt should sit on top of the blue belt buckle. The length of the airplane seat belt is not standardized, thus we recommend you to use the belt shortener, which is included in the travel kit so that you can adjust the length of the belt to its optimal length, according to the instructions.

In which countries can I use the HY5?

The Nachfolger HY5 is approved for Europe and Asia. Nachfolger is working on the approvals for use in North and South America as well.

The approval for the US is primarily for the marketing, so the sale of the HY5 in the US is necessary. The seat Nachfolger has for the American market will be adapted for the different approval requirements.

How do I know that this car seat is really safe?

The Nachfolger HY5 underwent multi-stage, extensive tests in world-leading facilities. An emergency case was simulated in professional crash tests. In addition, they were tested during temperature changes, pressure loss and in presence of foreign bodies. The results were overwhelming: the HY5 made it clear in the tests that it is not only extremely stable, but also flexible and energy-absorbent. The seat acts as a protective airbag, providing your child with the protection they need.

How does the seat work in an accident?

An emergency case was simulated in professional crash tests. The Nachfolger HY5 protects the child by acting as an airbag in the event of an impact. It is able to do this due to the stability, flexibility and energy-absorbency of the car seat.

Can glass splinters from the window damage the car seat?

No - The glass in car windows are not made like conventional glass and hence will not splinter, but break down into small pieces. These small pieces cannot harm the Nachfolger.

Can the Nachfolger be checked as baggage when I'm travelling by plane?

In the carry-on luggage, the seat is less likely to be damaged while packed in the bag. It has a much softer structure, and we would not recommend it for other car seats

We recommend gate checking your car seat, but if you absolutely have to check your Nachfolger in as baggage, you can use a box. The box will protect your car seat from dust and can be used as a means to inspect the extent at which your car seat might have been damaged on the way from the checking counter to the plane.

Focus more protective attention on the pump, as the power button can be vulnerable to hits or pressure and that can accidentally start the pump.

How long does the car seat battery last?

The battery generally lasts 1 to 2 years, depending of the quality of care it's under.

For example, if your Nachfolger is in continuous use and always inflated in the car, it will consume more battery because the built-in pressure sensor remains active at all times for safety reasons. If you let out the air in the seat, however, the sensors and the LED light are completely switched off after 5 minutes so the battery is better preserved.

Nachfolger's products are covered by a one-year warranty.

Nachfolger built the world's lightest folding kids car seat. It's simple - because we need it. As fathers, we've had enough of carrying around bulky contraptions. And since they have had experience with car seats, they thought up ways to improve them.
That's how the Nachfolger HY5 was invented.

Keeping children safe is our utmost priority. As such, we have a strict no-return policy for child safety products as it is not possible to ascertain the complete history (how it was used/if any parts of the product might be compromised) of the product before considering resale.

International Shipping

We ship around the world with DHL Express and Registered Mail. In our experience, DHL Express is an incredibly reliable service provider and shipments are handled by DHL Express personnel from beginning to end. Of all the couriers that we have access to in Singapore, DHL is the fastest shipping option humanly possible. We have found that local in-country postal services (Registered Mail) can be less reliable than DHL Express and delays should be expected.

How much will it cost?
When you reach the checkout page of our website, prices for your selected country will be shown. If you aren't seeing a DHL Express option, please double check your post code and address.

How long will it take?
DHL Express transit times are typically 1-4 business days globally, from dispatch date and we aim to dispatch all orders within 1 business day. Registered Mail transit times are shown at check out, but based on our experience, please expect delays.

Please note that estimated transit times are based on efficient processing at local customs checkpoints. Any delays at customs is solely accountable to the local customs operations and it completely beyond the control of DHL, the postal service provider and Plane Pal Asia.

Will I have to pay import taxes and/or duties upon delivery?

For orders sent by Registered Mail, the shipping cost generally includes prepaid taxes and duties so there should be no additional payment required upon delivery. Please note that each country's local postal service handles import taxes and duties differently and you may be requested to pay additional fees and charges. If you do, please let us know so that we can update this page for the benefit of other customers.

For orders sent by DHL Express, the shipping cost excludes taxes and duties applicable in the destination country and these will be charged to you, by DHL, upon delivery. Please note that import taxes and duties are the sole responsibility of your country's customs department and we have absolutely no control over the amount nor payment methods applied.
